What is the ATM machine?

ATM: Automated Teller Machine (also known as an ATM or Cash Machine), is a computerized device that provides customers of a financial institution with the ability to perform financial transactions without the need for a human clerk or bank teller. Different from staff service, Automated Teller Machine (ATMs) provides 24/7 financial service to customers.

The Automated Teller Machine is a terminal provided by bank or other financial institutions which enables the customer to:
  • withdraw cash,
  • make a balance enquiry,
  • order a statement,
  • make a money transfer,
  • deposit cash.
Some of the new generation ATMs are able to:
  • cash a check,
  • dispense traveler’s cheques and postage stamps,
  • perform stock transfers,
  • print discount coupons,
  • issue phone cards, and even
  • sell concert tickets.

There is no doubt that mobile network is the new connectivity standard for ATM. Wireless technology is changing the world in which we live. It’s in our homes, our cars, and now it’s becoming an essential part of every ATM business, including banking sector. Wireless for many reasons is now becoming a standard for all types of ATM terminals’ locations including hotels, stores and retail. Due to wider mobile network service coverage, increased data transfer speeds and advance RICON technology wireless data transmissions are now as good as or better than landlines.

RICON devices are truly “plug&play”. Bank simply connects RICON router to a power outlet, attach the antenna and connect router to the ATM cord system. It also makes it easier to re-deploy ATMs and move it to different locations. Bank can install ATM’s immediately and time it wants.
  • Location and Timing Independence - when Bank is free of landlines, is free to place its ATMs anywhere, wherever mobile network is. Quick and easy RICON routers deployment allows banks to provide ATMs services on short event like fairs, conferences, music festivals and similar events. Many annual fair and events gathered thousands of people. In addition to the event activities there are many services offered from food to commercial services and thus lots of money is spend. To take care of those who may run short of cash, applying RICON solution Bank can provide a number of wireless ATMs on the event ground. Furthermore sometimes despite of the best research of the Bank, some ATMs loca¬tions just don’t bring the number of trans¬actions Bank had hoped for. In those cases, the ATMs can be easily and fast loaded up, moved to a better spot.
  • Touchless configuration – RICON solution provides fast and convenient network deployment and configuration possibilities. RICON solution supports local (via device web interface) and remote (via RICON M2M Terminal Management Platform) firmware upgrades and supports backup and recovery of current system configuration. Also the unit allows to save the current system configuration as a profile for recovery as required. Also applying RICON solution Bank can remotely configure, upgrade/downgrade selected router firmware on remote ATM terminal in a preferable and adjustable time.
  • Seamless Operation - uptime is everything in the ATM system. To prevent the ATM terminal operation from unexpected downtimes caused by problems on the mobile network RICON developed a built-in mechanism to restore connectivity. These are automatic restart facility and dual SIM card option. Dual SIM card makes possible to switch between two alternate mobile operators. These mechanisms are very important when the mobile network service is not stable.
  • Secure Transaction & Data Safety – for secure data transfer over the mobile network, all the way from ATM to the Bank’s data center, RICON solution uses safe advanced secure data transferring network features. For Banks strict security requirements of data transfer RICON fully considers these special requirements and provides customizable solutions. The system provides, in accordance with a Bank requirement, VPN Client (PPTP, L2TP), IPsec, GRE features so transmitted data is highly secured.
  • Fast Transaction Speeds - RICON offers 3G and 4G network technology. ATMs running on RICON 3G, 4G routers communicate and transfer data over mobile networks twice as fast as dial-up landline. 3G, is a standard for wireless communication. While 3G itself is very fast, 4G is already said to be 3-4 times faster than it.
  • Power Maintenance - On the ATM remote location where power cuts occur, special battery component can be applied to RICON router. Battery switches on while power cut to allow seamless operation of the device.
  • Robust design – RICON routers characterize with industrial class design. Components are lock inside metal, durable case. Device fits inside the ATM terminal cabinet. Safety mechanism to avoid unintentional SIM cards manipulations are provided. If required, external magnetic antenna for a better signal can be placed.
  • Continues Control – RICON Remote Terminal Management Platform gives Bank immediate access to real-time-data about ATMs’ network connectivity. Everything is presented in a web interface:
    • Service Level Agreement. Bank can customize and set SLA terms (SLA = Service Level Agreement) in a router firmware. By setting these parameters Bank can control and monitor performance of mobile network and data transfer on a mobile network. Whether mobile network doesn’t work as it was set in the agreement with mobile network provider, Bank can execute sanctions resulting from the contact.
    • Detailed data stream reporting. RICON solution monitors data stream on the mobile network, provides reports on its size, transfer timings, etc.
    • Real-time data. RICON solution informs on real-time operation on mobile network between ATM and Banks’ data center.
    • Trend analyses. Management Platform system can create reports on mobile networks performance. Statistic data allows Bank to prepare necessary reports and data trend analyses.
    • Live Alarms: RICON solution sends alarm messages or e-mails warnings to the Bank’s technical engineers to make them aware of network connectivity situation as well as providing information on the type of the problem. For example, it can send information that router has now switched a different network provider due to primary network failure.
    • Dual SIM: Dual SIM card increases the reliability of the router. The automatic failover feature will detect the failure of the primary connection and automatically switch to an alternative connection. When connectivity over the primary connection is restored the router will switch back to the primary connection.

RICON routers are extremely easy to use and slimly configured using build in graphical user web interface (GUI) or by using RICON M2M Management Platform system. RICON M2M Management Platform is where the power of managing RICON routers all comes together. This Platform centralizes access to all remote nodes, giving the user ultimate management control over the hardware. RICON M2M Management Platform system provides full control over data transfer and network diagnostics of thousands of routers and mobile devices on the network. Remote accessibility to the RICON M2M Remote Management Platform from any location gives the user fingertip control over multiple devices allowing the user to assess, diagnose, manage, control and resolve any problem within a very short period of time. RICON M2M Remote Management Platform provides extreme reduction in the unpredictability of managing a large network cluster of routers which drastically improves responses to downtime during any crisis. Platform has a major impact on the cost of ownership, allowing redistribution of other valuable resources.

Terminal -> Terminal List Tab is the list of all authorized terminals registered to the platform. It shows up-to-date information regarding each terminal including agent id, terminal id, IP as well as terminals’ operational data: online-offline status, network signal strength, network type, SIM in use, data flow, firmware version in use, terminal location (see the view below).


Terminal -> Terminal Detail Tab represents a summary of single terminal along with network details. It is also a link to other pagers related to terminal and network management and monitoring (see the view below).


Terminal -> Modify Parameter Tab enable user to configures terminal parameters remotely (see the view below).

Terminal -> Real-time Alarm & Alarm Record Tabs represent  a summary of the resent SLA alarms on the terminals (see the view below).

Terminal -> Alarm List Tab divides the alarm terminal based on alarm type (Availability, Packet loss, Signal, Out of service, Cell switch, SIM switch) and enable their observation in different pages (see the view below).

Terminal -> Search Term Tab provides a fast way to find a certain terminal details. User can search for a terminal based on Agent ID, Location or IP (see the view below).

Terminal -> Daily Alarm Report Tab provides single terminal daily report. User can check terminal network parameter record, including Signal(dBm), Online time(s), Out of service, Network switch, SIM switch, TX flow, RX flow, sim1 flow, sim2 flow, Packet loss, Avg latency, Cell switch (see the view below).

System enables to present reports in graph and excel files (see the view below).

Terminal -> Statistics Tab provides statistic data according to Terminal ID, IP, Version and date, searching the Alarm statistic, result includes (Terminal ID, IP, Version, Availability, Signal, Out of service, Network switch, and SIM switch) - see the view below.

Group -> Terminal Group List & Manage Group Tabs. After terminals registered to platform system user can divide them into groups for convenient management. User create, edit, delete group (see the view below).


System -> Set SLA Tab. User can set a certain alarm threshold. If terminal meets any of above SLA parameters, alarm will be triggered and terminal will be listed in 'Alarmed list' (see the view below).

System -> Auto Install Setup Tab. When terminal registers to platform, the platform will send configuration in imported rule to terminal according to terminal serial number. Terminal will be rebooted automatically after it gets parameters, then with new parameters, it will register to platform again and star to work properly (see the view below).

System -> Authorization Tab. User setups legal terminal list (judge by last 16 number of terminal serial number). Platform will judge the legality of a terminal as per the import rule and will move terminals, which don’t fit import rule, into the group of “pendinglist”. User moves authorized terminal from 'pendinglist' to 'Homelist'. If terminal not authorized User moves it from 'pendinglist' to 'blacklist' (see the view below).

System -> Firmware&Patch Tab. User can upload the updated packet of designated path to server, after uploading, the packet can be used to upgrade the terminals remotely (see the view below).

System -> Batch Upgrade Tab. User can remotely upgrade selected terminals. User selects the beginning terminal ID and ending ID, select beginning time, end time and upgrade package. All terminals between the two IDs will be upgraded in the designated time (see the view below).

System -> System Log Tab has recorded terminals remote upgrade, auto install, registration, login in and out, parameter configuration. As per the above log type, terminal ID and time to search the above info record (see the view below).

User -> Add User & User List Tabs. Though the User module user can manage user info, including: adding a new common user, edit user info, delete a common user. Admin has been authorized to manage all users, while a common user can edit his own info.
